Advance Credit

Students may be granted advance credit towards the Master of Counselling program. You may apply for up to 12 credits (4 half courses) of graduate study from other universities. A maximum of 3 credits (1 half course) can be applied to the area of specialization. The remaining courses must be applied to the core program courses. Only courses taken within the past 6 years (from date of application to the program) will be considered for advance credit.

Application for advance credit and fee payment must be made at the time of application to the program. Advance credit decisions will be made as part of the admissions process and will not be revisited at a later point in the program.

The following courses must be taken within the Master of Counselling program. No advance or transfer credit is permitted.

Students must demonstrate that previous coursework is equivalent to core Graduate Centre for Applied Psychology (GCAP) courses or appropriate for option or specialization course credit. Courses cannot be considered for advance credit if they have already been used toward another degree.

Students applying to the Art Therapy specialization will not qualify for additional advance credit. The courses taken through the Vancouver Art Therapy institute constitute the maximum 12 credits of advance or transfer credit.

Students who successfully complete GCAP courses as non-program students will receive credit for those courses toward their program.

The information required to apply for advance credit is provided under the Application Information links.
