Our Approach to Learning

Access

The Graduate Centre for Applied Psychology (GCAP) is committed to removing barriers to learning. Our graduate programs allow students to access graduate studies while continuing with their careers. A core feature of the educational process is the application of learning in the work environment.

Critical Thought

The facilitation of critical thinking and exchange of ideas among academics and students is a key feature of graduate-level education. The use of a variety of innovative delivery models provides students with a highly challenging and interactive learning environment. At the same time, students have flexibility in terms of when and where learning occurs and an opportunity to study while continuing with their careers.

Professional Competencies

The courses use a competency-based model. Core competencies required for the various professional roles (professional counsellor, counselling psychologist, art therapist) are clearly identified. Students will be able to track the competency areas being addressed at various points in the program and clearly visualize the links between each course and the overall competency framework.

Academic Community

An important component of the program is the formal and informal interaction among students and between faculty and students. All core program components follow a paced delivery model that allows for ongoing interaction through a variety of formats: face-to-face, online discussions, teleconferencing, videoconferencing, and so on.
