Services for Students with Disabilities

The Access to Students with Disabilities Centre at Athabasca University provides students with physical, sensory, learning, emotional, and other disabilities with services to support equal access and success in the GCAP program. The Centre is responsible for the assessment and coordination of academic accommodations, although not necessarily the provision of all required services. If you have a disability or are struggling with an illness and are likely to require academic accommodation, you are strongly encouraged to contact the Disability Centre to request a formal assessment. Registering with the Centre is a good idea even if you don't plan to request services or accommodations because, if your circumstances change at a later date, those services will be readily accessible.

Once the disability assessment is complete, a notification will be provided to the program office from the Disability Centre outlining the types of accommodation that you will need to be successful in your courses and program. The Graduate Student Advisor will then provide a copy of the notification to your course instructor. Please plan ahead to allow time for the assessment to be processed and to reach our office. Normally, you are required to have the documentation in place no later than 14 days after the first day of classes.

If you encounter any difficulties or have concerns about ensuring that your needs are fully met, please contact the Graduate Program Advisor. All documentation provided to the Disability Centre will be treated as confidential unless you provide a release of information.
