Prerequisite Course Options

If you are lacking the prerequisite psychology courses, they are available at a distance through Athabasca University. Please note a senior course is identified with a 300 or 400 number on your transcript. Courses with 200 level numbers will not be accepted, even if they appear in the transfer credit guide as equivalent to a 300 level course.

Counselling Theories PSYC 406 - Introduction to Theories of Counselling and Psychotherapy
PSYC 356 - Introduction to Personality Theories and Issues
Abnormal Psychology PSYC 435 - Abnormal Psychology

All of these courses are offered in distance learning formats. To register in a course, submit the Undergraduate General Application Form, applying as an unclassified student, along with the Undergraduate Course Registration form.

If you are currently a graduate program applicant wishing to apply and register for an undergraduate course, you MUST submit the print-based forms by faxing to: 780-675-6174.

If you have NOT already started an Athabasca University graduate application, you may register online.

Athabasca University permits registration in undergraduate courses at any time. Please keep in mind that although Athabasca University typically grants contract periods of up to six months to complete a 3-credit course, you must ensure that prerequisite courses used toward the Master of Counselling application are complete and transcripts with final grades received prior to the application deadline.
